Cursor Not Working? Troubleshooting Guide (2026)
Quick Fix: Most issues are solved by clearing cache, checking your subscription, or reconnecting your account. Try these fixes in order.
Fix #1: Cursor not connecting to AI
Check your internet connection. Verify your subscription is active. Try signing out and back in.
Fix #2: Autocomplete not appearing
Enable autocomplete in Settings > Cursor > General. Check that the file type is supported.
Fix #3: Composer not working
Composer requires Pro plan. Select files with Ctrl+Enter. Make sure you have described the changes clearly.
Fix #4: High memory usage
Close unused tabs. Disable unused extensions. Cursor indexes your entire project — large repos use more memory.
Fix #5: Extensions not compatible
Cursor is a VS Code fork. Most VS Code extensions work. Some may need manual installation from VSIX files.
Fix #6: Git integration issues
Cursor uses VS Code git. Ensure git is installed and in PATH. Try running git commands in the integrated terminal.
Fix #7: Keybinding conflicts
Go to Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts. Search for conflicting bindings. Cursor adds its own shortcuts that may conflict.
Fix #8: AI responses are poor quality
Specify the programming language and framework. Include relevant file context. Use @file references for better context.
